abstract PURPOSE: To advantageously obtain the titled compound, useful as a remedy for asthma and anti-inflammatory agent and having improved SRS-A antagonistic action, by oxidative reaction of benzaldhyde corresponding to the aimed compound, etc. n CONSTITUTION: (i) A compound expressed by formula I (R 1 is lower alkyl; X is halogen) is oxidized or (ii) a compound expressed by formula II (Y is a group eliminating in condensation reaction) is condensed with a compound expressed by formula III (R 2 is protected carboxy) and the pretective group is eliminated. Alternatively, (iii) a compound expressed by formula IV is con densed with a compound expressed by formula V (n is 2, 3 or 4; R 4 and R 5 are H or lower alkyl or 5-W6-membered heterocyclic ring as NR 4 R 5 ) or (iv) the compound expressed by formula II (COR 1 is substituted by H) is condensed with the compound expressed by formula III [R 2 is COO(CH 2 ) n NR 4 R 5 ].
