abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium having good running property, wear resistance and durability by forming a thin ferromagnetic metallic film on a nonmagnetic substrate and laminating a rust preventive agent layer essentially consisting of a compd. having a mercapto group and lubricating agent contg. a perfluoroalkyl carboxylate thereon. n CONSTITUTION: The thin film 2 is formed on the nonmagnetic substrate 1 by dispersing ferromagnetic metallic powder into an org. binder, coating the dispersion on the substrate and drying the coating. A thiophenol, thiooxine, etc., are coated as the rust preventive agent 3 thereon. The perfluoroalkyl carboxylate expressed by C n F m COOC a X b is further superposed as the lubricating agent 4 thereon. In the formula, X is H, F or both thereof and n≥6, m≤2n+1, a≥8, b≤2n+1, C a X b is a straight chain alkyl group of 18<a or aliphat. hydrocarbon group having double bonds or branch of a>18, for which a nonadecafluorodecanoic acid isostearyl ester, etc., are used.
