abstract NEW MATERIAL:A 2,6-xylenol dimer mono- or di-ether compound of formula (R 1 is isopropyl or benzyl; R 2 is H or same as R 1 ). n EXAMPLE: 4,4-diisopropoxy-3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbiphenyl. n USE: Useful as a repellent for cockroach, etc. It is scattered in the path, etc., of smoky brown cockroach, aphid, etc., or used in the form bonded to a sheet, etc., with a binder. It has repelling effect against hygienic vermin. n PREPARATION: The compound of formula can be produced e.g. by heating 1mol of 2,6-xylenol dimer (4,4'-dihydroxy-3,3',5,5'-tetramethyl-biphenyl) and 1W2mol of isopropyl halide or benzyl halide in a proper solvent in the presence of an alkali. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
