abstract NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by the formula (R represents H, lower alkyl, lower alkyloxy, benzoyl, halogenomethyl, halogen atom, nitro or amino substituting any 1 or 2 positions of the 4-, 5- and 6-positions on benzimidazole nucleus). EXAMPLE:2-(4-Pyridylaminomethyl)-benzimidazole.dihydrochloride. USE:Medicines, expected to have an activity on a certain kind of virus supposed to be a main etiology of influenza mainly infecting bobies and infants. PREPARATION:For example, 2-chloromethylbenzimidazole obtained by cyclization of o-phenylenediamine with monochloroacetic acid is reacted with 4-aminopyridine in ethanol for 3hr while heating and refluxing, then treated with acetone, etc., and conc. hydrochloric acid is added thereto to obtain the compound expressed by the formula such as 2-(4-pyridylaminomethyl)- benzimidazole.dihydrochloride.
