abstract NEW MATERIAL:A carboxylic acid perfluoroalkyl ester derivative shown by formula I (R is aliphatic hydrocarbon group; j is >= 4 integer). EXAMPLE:Linoleic acid pentafluorooctyl ester. USE:A lubricant, showing improved lubricating action even in a low-temperature range, capable of maintaining lubricating effects for a long period only by applying surface and useful for lubrication for various machines and for specific uses such as magnetic recording medium of ferromagnetic metallic thin film type, etc. PREPARATION:An acid chloride shown by formula II (m <= 2n+1 and n <=about 25) is reacted with approximately equimolar amount of a fluorine- containing alcohol shown by formula III in a solvent such as chloroform, etc., in the presence of a base such as triethylamine, etc., usually at normal temperature while stirring to give a compound shown by formula I.
