abstract | NEW MATERIAL:2-(p-Bromomethylphenyl)propionic acid of formula I. n USE: Useful as a synthetic intermediate for phenylpropionic acid-type analgesic anti-inflammatory agent. n PREPARATION: The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting 2-(p- methylphenyl)propionic acid of formula II with a bromination agent in the presence of a radical generator. The bromination agent is preferably bromine, N-bromosuccinimide, etc., because of its ready availability and its amount is preferably about 1.2W1.5mol per 1mol of the compound of formula II used as the raw material. The radical generator is especially preferably azobisisobutyronitrile or light. The amount of the generator is preferably about 0.5W2.0wt% of the raw material in the case of chemical agent.
