titleOfInvention Color developer for pressure-sensitive copying paper
abstract PURPOSE:To provide excellent water resistance, by using 3,5-bis(1'-tolyl-1'- methylethyl)salicylic acid and/or a water-insoluble salt thereof as a color developer. CONSTITUTION:3,5-Bis(1'-tolyl-1'-methylethyl)salicylic acid can be obtained by carboxylating 2,4-bis(1'-tolyl-1'-methylethyl)phenol obtained by an addition reaction of phenol with isopropenyltoluene. A water-insoluble salt of said salicylic acid can be obtained by once forming a potassium salt of the acid and then subjecting the potassium salt to double decomposition. When using said salicylic acid and/or the water-insoluble salt thereof as a color developer for a pressure- sensitive copying paper, the acid and/or the salt is dispersed or dissolved in water or an organic solvent together with a binder to prepare a coating liquid, which is applied to a wood-free paper by an air knife coater while adjusting the amount of coating, whereby a color reaction paper can be obtained.
