abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a water-based coating film which is insoluble in water and useful for moisture conditioning, the prevention of dew condensation, etc., by emulsion-polymerizing part of a specified monomer to obtain a seed particle, emulsion-polymerizing the remainder of the monomer by using the seed particle as a nucleus, applying the resulting aq. compsn. to a substrate and drying it. n CONSTITUTION: A mixture of a monomer of formula I or II [wherein R 1 is H, methyl; R 2 is H, methyl, ethyl; R 3 is methyl, ethyl, propyl; A is a group of formula III (wherein n is 4W6; a group of formula IV)] and other monomer is emulsion-polymerized for 10W120min to form a seed particle. The remainder of the monomer mixture is continuously added thereto in an aq. medium in an inert atmosphere over a period of 1W10hr to carry out emulsion polymn. at 0W100°C, thus obtaining an aq. compsn. contg. 5W60wt% polymer. The compsn. is applied to a substrate such as nonwoven fabric at 5W80°C and dried in a box dryer to obtain a coating film. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
