abstract | PURPOSE: To improve the yield of the titled compound useful for the production of agricultural chemicals, without using expensive chemicals, by using a specific solvent in the reaction of an alkali metal salt of a phenolic compound with carbon dioxide gas. n CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula III is produced by reacting a phenolic compound of formula I (X is OH, lower alkoxy or amino which may be substituted with lower alkyl) with carbon dioxide gas using an alcohol of formula II (n is 1 or 2; Y is H, lower alkoxy or amino which may be substituted with lower alyl) in the presence of a basic compound preferably at 130W180°C. When the reaction is carried out in the absence of the basic compound, an alkali metal salt of the phenolic compound of formula I is used as a reaction raw material.
