titleOfInvention Production of porous copolymer
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a copolymer having high specific surface area and pore volume, by carrying out the suspension polymerization of mono- and polyvinyl compounds in the presence of a pore-forming agent, heat-treating the resultant crosslinked copolymer in the presence of an organic solvent and a polymerization initiator, and removing the pore-forming agent. n CONSTITUTION: A mixture of a monovinyl compound, a polyvinyl compound and a pore-forming agent is subjected to the suspension polymerization in water in the presence of a polymerization initiator to obtain a crosslinked copolymer. The copolymer is heated in the presence of an organic solvent and 3W12(wt)% polymerization initiator (based on said crosslinked copolymer), and then the pore-forming agent is removed from the product. The amount of the polyvinyl compound (divinylbenzene) is 8W80%, especially 15W60% based on the whole vinyl compounds. The heating is carried out preferably by using 3W10pts.wt. of an organic solvent such as benzene, toluene, etc. to effect the swelling of the crosslinked copolymer, based on 1pt. of the copolymer, under the condition to leave preferably ≤1% polymerization initiator after the completion of the treatment. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
