titleOfInvention Production of heat-stable methacrylic resin
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled resin excellent in transparency, gloss, surface hardness and heat resistance, by suspension-polymerizing a monomer (mixture) such as a methyl methacrylate in an aqueous medium in the presence of a polymerization initiator and a specified chain transfer agent. n CONSTITUTION: 100pts.wt. mono mer (mixture) comprising 80W100wt% methyl methacrylate and 20W0wt% other copolymerizable vinyl monomer [e.g., ethyl (meth)acrylate] is suspension- polymerized at 60W120°C in the presence of 0.02W2pts.wt. polymerization initia tor (e.g., azobisisobutyronitrile) and 0.02W2pts.wt. 3-mercaptopropionate of the formula (wherein R is a 4W18C alkyl) as a chain transfer agent in an aqueous medium containing a granulation aid (e.g., polysodium methacrylate). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
