abstract PURPOSE:To improve rolling efficiency by previously calculating the set changing quantities of a roll gap and a roll peripheral speed at every stand. CONSTITUTION:The change of roll gas reduces the interval of starting time, and the change of roll peripheral speed branches into three regions alpha, beta, gamma. The change of roll peripheral speed depends on the change of roll gap of one stand in regions alpha, beta, and is performed in accordance with the change shown by an alternate long and one dash line. When a sheet-thickness changing point arrives at each stand, the changing quantity DELTAR of roll peripheral speed at each stand is previously and separately calculated. Next, each roll-peripheral- speed command value V (i) is calculated, by adding each of changing command value DELTAVRij.RHj obtained from said changing quantity DELTAR to the roll peripheral speed, to control the roll peripheral speed. When the change of roll peripheral speed is performed extendedly over two stands, the two regions are automati cally superimposed. In this way, the rolling efficiency is improved.
