titleOfInvention Underwater antifouling coating
abstract PURPOSE: The titled coating which has low toxicity, maintains a powerful antifouling effect for a long period of time, and has excellent slime resistance and stability, containing a β-nitrostyrene derivative as an effective component. n CONSTITUTION: NaOH is added dropwise to a mixture of a benzaldehyde derivative of formula I (wherein R is H, a lower alkyl, nitro or a halogen), nitromethane, and methanol, to which cold water is then added. The reaction mixture thus obtained is fed into aqueous sulfuric acid, and the deposited yellow crude crystals are separated by filtration, which are recrystallized from ethanol to give a β-nitrostyrene derivative of formula II. 0.5W50wt% β-nitrostyrene derivative thus obtained, a resin vehicle (e.g., a vinyl chloride resin), and if necessary, a copper-base antifouling agent (e.g., copper suboxide), a tin-base antifouling agent (e.g., triphenyltin fluoride), other antifouling agents such as a dithiocarbamic acid derivative [e.g., zinc ethylenebis-(dithiocarbamate)], a plasticizer, a solvent, etc. are mixed. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
