PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for agricultural chemicals, inexpensively in high purity, in high selectivity, by reacting inexpensive p-aminophenol with m-dinitrobenzene in the presence of an alkali metal compound in a polar organic solvent. n CONSTITUTION: p-Aminophenol is reacted with m-dinitrobenzene in the presence of an alkali metal compound (e.g., Na 2 CO 3 , K 2 CO 3 , etc.) in a polar organic solvent (e.g., sulfolane, DMSO, etc.), to give 3-nitro-4'-aminodiphenyl ether. The reaction is carried out usually at 40W180°C, preferably at 80W150°C. The use of 1W20 times as much the polar solvent as p-aminophenol provides good results. An amount of the alkali metal compound is 1W4mol, preferably 1W1.5mol, based on 1mol p-aminophenol. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio |
