titleOfInvention Manufacture of metallic magnetic powder
abstract PURPOSE: To manufacture the titled metallic magnetic powder having excellent oxidation resistance and storage stability, sufficient dispersibility, and an excellent magnetic characteristic by treating metallic magnetic powder consisting of iron or essentially of iron with a specified disufide compd. n CONSTITUTION: Metallic magnetic powder consisting of iron or essentially of iron, obtained by heating and reducing iron hydroxide or iron oxide contg. metals such as Ni and Co other than iron or not with gaseous hydrogen, is treated with a disulfide compd. such as di-n-amyl disulfide expressed by the formula R 1 -S-S-R 2 (where R 1 and R 2 are an alkyl group) to obtain metallic magnetic powder having excellent oxidation resistance and dispersibility and appropriately used for a magnetic recording medium. A 5W12C alkyl group is preferably used as said alkyl groups R 1 and R 2 , and about 0.1W10wt% said disulfide, based on the metallic magnetic powder, is preferably used. The metallic magnetic powder is immersed in an org. solvent such as toluene wherein about 0.05W10% disulfide compd. is dissolved or dispersed, and then the powder is dried to obtain the treated metallic magnetic powder. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
