titleOfInvention Branched acrylic resin for pigment dispersion and pigment dispersion base composition
abstract PURPOSE: The titled acrylic resin which can show excellent dispersibility, paint characteristic, applicability and coating film characteristics irrespective of the kind of the pigment used, prepared by introducing electron-accepting and/or electron-donating groups into a specified branched acrylic resin. n CONSTITUTION: A COOH group-free monomer such as 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate is copolymerized with a polymerizable basic compound such as dimethylaminoethyl acrylate by using a COOH group-containing compound, such as mercaptoacetic acid, as a chain transfer agent to obtain a COOH group-terminated acrylic prepolymer of formula I (wherein X' is an acrylic polymer chaing having a basic group). This prepolymer is reacted with a polyepoxy compound of formula II(wherein R is an n-valent aliphatic, aromatic or like hydrocarbon residue and n is 2W6) to obtain an acrylic resin of formula III (wherein X is X'), which is then reacted with an acid anhydride and/or a sultone compound to obtain the titled electron-accepting group-containing resin of a weight-average MW of 2,000W 200,000 and a glass transition temperature of -20W100°C. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
