titleOfInvention Permselective membrane using polybenzimidazolone having pendant carboxyl group
abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a superior permselective membrane suitable as reverse osmotic membrane capable of operating with high water permeability without impairing its high chemical resistance by using polybenzimidazolone having a specified proportion of pendant carboxyl groups. CONSTITUTION:Polynitroimine is prepd. by allowing an arom. diamine such as 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl ether, 3,3'-dicarboxy-4,4'-diaminodiphenyl methane, to react by heating with arom. nitrohalo compd. such as 4,4'-dichloro-3,3'-dinitrodiphenyl sulfone, in an inert solvent such as DMSO in the presence of an acid acceptor such as Na2CO3. Further, the nitro group of the polynitro imine is reduced to obtain polyaminoimine, which is dissolved in a solvent such as NMP, and allowed to react with carbonic acid deriv. such as phenyl chlorocarbonate, etc. to obtain polybenzimidazolone having pendant carboxyl group and having recurrent units as shown by the formula I. A film of the polymer was formed to obtain a permselective membrane.
