titleOfInvention Whitening cosmetic
abstract PURPOSE:A whitening cosmetic, obtained by incorporating isokojic acid having improved inhibitory action on melanization in a cosmetic base, capable of exhibiting improved whitening and antisuntan effect, and useful for skin cosmetic, e.g. safe toilet water, cream or milky lotion. CONSTITUTION:A whitening cosmetic obtained by incorporating water-soluble isokojic acid (=6-hydroxy-2-hydroxymethyl-1,4-pyrone) expressed by the formula in an amount of 0.01-10% in a usually used cosmetic base or assistant, etc. used in toilet water, milky lotion, pack, etc. The isokojic acid produced by cultivation of a microorganism or chemical synthetic product may be used as the above-mentioned isokojic acid. For example, in the case of tiolet water, a protectant, e.g. glycerol, and a skin nutriment, etc. are dissolved in purified water, an a preservative, perfume, etc. are dissolved in an alcohol. Both are then mixed and solubilized at room temperature to give the tiolet water. In the above- mentioned general production of the toilet water, 0.01-10% isokijic acid expressed by the formula is added to the water-soluble part to afford the aimed whitening toilet water.
