abstract NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formula I [R1 and R2 are 1-8C alkyl, 3-7C cycloalkyl, (substituted) phenyl, (substituted) benzyl, 2-6C alkoxyalkyl or H; R3 and R4 are H, C1 or 1-4C alkyl]. EXAMPLE:2-N, N-Di (beta-phenoxyethyl) amino-6-diethylaminofluoran. USE:A colorant for pressure-sensitive copying paper capable of forming a colored image having improved light resistance. PREPARATION:An aniline derivative shown by the formula II (R is H, 1-4C alkyl or acetyl) is reacted with a benzophenone derivative shown by the formula III in the presence of conc. sulfuric acid at 0-80 deg.C for several hours. After the reaction is over, the reaction mixture is poured into water, adjusted with NaOH to 8-10 pH and precipitate is collected by filtration. Toluene and an aqueous solution of NaOH is added to the cake, which is treated under reflux and a compound shown by the formula I is obtained from the toluene layer.
