abstract PURPOSE: To allow a constant speed running to be satisfactorily controlled even when a vehicle is running on a downhill road by providing a suspending means which suspends coasting when a vehicle speed is still accelerated with a coasting speed holding means actuated. n CONSTITUTION: The on-off operation of a clutch 10 and the opening control of a throttle valve 26 by means of a throttle actuator 25 are effected based on signals from a computer unit 30. And signals from a brake switch 2, an accelerator pedal position sensor 4, an engine stop detecting sensor 21, a water temperature sensor 22, a throttle position sensor 23, an intake air temperature sensor 24, and a vehicle speed sensor 16 are inputted into the computer unit 30. When a vehicle is running on a downhill road, a vehicle speed is accelerated. However, if the specified limit is set somewhat to the upper side of the upper limit, the vehicle speed which reaches the specified one, allows only the clutch 10 to be while the throttle opening remains fully open permitting an engine brake to be applied. And if the vehicle speed reaches the lower limit, the vehicle speed is accelerated with the clutch disengaged. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
