abstract PURPOSE: A TiO 2 pigment, obtained by coating the surface of a TiO 2 crystal with respective specific amounts of hydrous Sn and Zr oxide as the innermost layer, coating the resultant innermost layer with a specific amount of hydrous Ti oxide as an interlayer and coating the resultant interlayer with a specific amount of hydrous Al oxide as the outermost layer and having improved weather resistance, gloss and dispersibility. n CONSTITUTION: A TiO 2 pigment obtained by coating the surface of a TiO 2 crystal to be a core with 0.1W2wt%, based on the core TiO 2 expressed in terms of SnO 2 , hydrous Sn oxide and 0.1W2wt%, based on the core TiO 2 expressed in terms of ZrO 2 , hydrous Zr oxide as the innermost layer, coating the resultant innermost layer with 0.1W2wt%, based on the core TiO 2 expressed in terms of TiO 2 , hydrous Ti oxide as an interlayer and coating the resultant interlayer finally with 0.1W5wt%, based on the core TiO 2 expressed in terms of Al 2 O 3 , hydrous Al oxide as the outermost layer and having improved weather resistance, gloss and dispersibility as compared with the conventional coated TiO 2 pigment. Thus, the pigment is useful as a white pigment for high-class baking coating used for coating automobiles, electrical appliance products, colored galvanized iron sheets, etc., and usable in fields, e.g. ink, plastic and paper, other than coating materials. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
