titleOfInvention Cholagogue
abstract PURPOSE: To provide a cholagogue containing costunolide as an active component. n CONSTITUTION: The objective cholagogue contains costunolide of formula which is a component of saussureae radix (root of Saussurea lappa, a plant of Compositae family) as an active component. The compound of formula can be prepared by treating saussureae radix with acetone, and fractionating the extract by silica gel column chromatography. It is not necessary to separate and purify the costunolide, and the acetone extract may be used as it is. It is administered orally at a dose of 50W100mg/dose in terms of costunolide and 2W3 doses per day. n EFFECT: The agent is used as a cholagogue having durable cholagogic effect different from the conventional cholagogue, and exhibiting subsidiary effect for the remedy of ulcer caused by stress. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
