abstract | PURPOSE: To eliminate the measurement error by endogenous ammonia by trapping and removing the endogenous ammonia in an upper layer, then reacting an ammonia forming substrate in a reaction layer, coloring the same in an indicator layer and detecting the color thereby determining quantitatively the substrate. n CONSTITUTION: The ammonia indicator layer II contg. the indicator which generates a change detectable by gaseous ammonia is provided on a light- transmittable and liquid-impermeable base I. A liquid permeation blocking layer III which permits the passage of the gaseous ammonia is provided on the reagent layer and further the reaction layer IV contg. the reagent which forms the gaseous ammonia by reacting with the ammonia forming substrate is provided thereon. The endogenous ammonia capturing layer V contg. the reagent which changes the endogoneous ammonia to the state of prohibiting substantially the arrival of the ammonia at the reaction layer by reacting with the endogenous ammonia is provided thereon.
