PURPOSE: To produce the title random copolymer improved in transparency, heat resistance, heat aging resistance and mechanical properties and having a narrowed MW distribution, by continuously copolymerizing ethylene with a cyclic olefin under specified conditions in the presence of a catalyst comprising a soluble vanadium compound and an organoaluminum compound. n CONSTITUTION: Ethylene is continuously copolymerized with at least one cyclic olefin selected from among bicycloalkenes and tricycloalkenes in a liquid phase comprising a hydrocarbon medium in the presence of a catalyst formed from a soluble vanadium compound and an organoaluminum compound. The soluble vanadium compound is fed at such a feed rate that the vanadium concentration in the feed may be at most ten times that in the polymerization vessel. The ratio of the aluminum atoms to the vanadium atoms (Al/V) is kept at 2 or larger. The ethylene and the cyclic olefin are fed so that the cyclic olefin component in the copolymer may fall in the range of 10W60mol%. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio |
