NEW MATERIAL:An α-phenoxyphenylacetic ester shown by the formula I (X 1 is halogen; X 2 is alkyl or alkoxy; X 3 is H, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy; R is alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl or aryl which is unsubstituted or substituted, respectively; Y is O or S). n EXAMPLE: Methyl α-(2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxy)phenylacetate. n USE: Useful as a herbicide showing improved herbicidal effects on weeds in paddy fields, especially showing excellent herbicidal effects on cyperaceous weeds, broad-leaved and perennial weeds by flooding soil treatment after germination, having extreme safety to rice plant. n PREPARATION: For example, an α-phenoxyphenylacetic halogenide is reacted with an alcohol, phenol, thioalcohol, etc. preferably in the presence of a scavenger for hydrogen halogenide in a solvent, to give a compound shown by the formula I. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio |
