abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a silver halide photographic sensitive material safe in operation under a yellow safelight and high in sensitivity to Ar laser beams and contrast by incorporating a specified compd. and an oxonole dye having a specified absorption maximum. CONSTITUTION:The silver halide emulsion layer, preferably, contains a compd. represented by formula I (R is alkyl; Z is a nonmetallic atomic group necessary to form a 5- or 6-membered hetero ring; Q1 is a nonmetallic atomic group necessary to form a 5-membered hetero ring; and m is 1 or 2), and an oxonole dye having an absorption max. of >=530nm wavelength region represented by formula II (Q2 is a nonmetallic atomic group necessary to form a pyrazolin-5-one or tetrahydropyrimidin-2,4,6-trione ring or the like; Q3 is a nonmetallic atomic group necessary to form a 5-hydroxypyrazole or tetrahydropyrimidin-2,4-dione ring or the like; L1, L2, L3 are each methine; and n is 1 or 2), thus permitting the obtained photographic sensitive material to be safe in operation under a yellow safelight, high in sensitivity to Ar laser beams and contrast.
