titleOfInvention Liquid crystal material for stationary liquid phase of gas chromatographic analysis
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a liquid crystal material for a stationary liquid phase for gas chromatographic analysis which can be used over a wide temp. region by using 2-chloro-N,N'-bis-(4-butoxybenzylidene)-phenylene-1,4-diamine. n CONSTITUTION: Explanation is made with an embodiment. The sulfate (5g) of 2-chloro-phenylene 1,4-diamine is dissolved in an ethanol solvent (200ml) contg. triethyl amine (4.6g) as a strong basic material and slightly excessive 4-butoxylbenzaldehyde (8.9g) is added thereto. Such soln. mixture is subjected to heating reflux for about 15hr. The intended liquid crystal material (8.0g) is settled and formed when the soln. is thereafter allowed to cool. The material is refined by the recrystallization using a suitable solvent such as ethanol. Such liquid crystal material exhibits only the nematic liquid crystal phase over a wide temp. range from about the room temp. to 230°C and therefore the quick and simple sepn. of various org. mixtures is made possible if such material is utilized for the stationary liquid phase of the gas chromatograph. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
