titleOfInvention Production of polyarylene sulfide
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a polymer having high melt viscosity and whiteness and excellent thermal stability, by reacting an alkali metal sulfide compound with a polyhalogenated aromatic compound in the presence of a plurality of alkali metal compounds in a polar organic solvent. n CONSTITUTION: The objective polymer can be produced by (1) adding (A) an alkali metal sulfide compound (e.g. lithium sulfide) to (B) a polar organic solvent (e.g. N-methylpyrrolidone), (2) adding (C) alkali metal compounds consisting of (i) the phenolic aromatic sulfonic acid alkali metal salt of formula (Ar is 6W24C aromatic group; M is alkali metal; m and n are 1 or 2) (e.g. phenol-4- sulfonic acid, etc.), (ii) an alkali metal hydroxide and/or alcoholate and (iii) an alkali metal sulfate to the above mixture e.g. in a stroke, (3) heating the mixture to 210°C and then cooling preferably to 150W180°C and, (4) adding and reacting (D) a polyhalogenated aromatic compound to the product. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
