PURPOSE:The titled composition which forms a tough gel skeleton holding a liquid uniformly and is useful as a base for cataplasmas or packs, comprising a specified monovalent metal salt of polyacrylic acid, a water-absorptive polymer, water and a polyhydric alcohol. CONSTITUTION:A water-containing composition is obtained by kneading 5-30wt% monovalent metal salt of polyacrylic acid (A) of a weight-average MW >=5X10<5> and a stoichiometric degree of neutralization of 50-100% with 0.1-30wt% water-absorptive polymer (B) (e.g., vinyl alcohol/acrylic acid copolymer), 5-50wt% water (C) and 30-80wt% polyalcohol (D) (e.g., glycerol) at 100 deg.C or below under an applied shearing force. 100pts.wt. this composition is mixed with, if necessary, 1-10pts.wt. tackifying agent (e.g., isoprene/maleic acid copolymer), an inorganic filler, a colorant, an antioxidant, etc., and the mixture is formed into a sheet or a film. |
