abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled polymer during the production of which the formation of an amide bond between a carboxyl group and a cyclic amine is effectively prevented in the dehydrative condensation with a carboxylic acid polymer, by condensing a polymer having carboxyl groups in its side chains with a specified cyclic amine/metal complex. n CONSTITUTION: An ω-hydroxyalkyl group-containing cyclic amine of formula III/metal complex (B) is obtained by reacting an ω-hydroxy group-containing cyclic amine of formula III obtained by condensing an α-(ω-hydroxyalkyl) malonate of formula I (wherein R is a lower alkyl and n≥4) with a polyamine of formula II (wherein m is 1W3) in the presence of a solvent (e.g., methanol). A polymer (A) having carboxyl groups in its side chains (e.g., polyglutamic acid) is condensed with component B to obtain a polymer having groups of an ester of the carboxyl group with the ω-hydroxyalkyl group of the cyclic amine/metal complex. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
