abstract | NEW MATERIAL:A pyrimidine derivative expressed by formula I [n is 0 or 1; R 1 is H or CH 3 ; R 2 is H, 1W3C alkoxy or SCH 3 ; R 3 is H (R 2 is not H in this case) or 1W3C alkoxy; R 4 is OH, 1W3C alkoxy or amino acid residue linked to CO in formula I through NH, and the terminal COOH may be esterified or converted into CH 2 OH]. n EXAMPLE: 5-Carboxy-2,4-dimethoxy-6-methylpyrimidine. n USE: A medicine, e.g. carcinostatic agent or intermediate therefor. n PREPARATION: A solution of the corresponding 5-halopyrimidine derivative in ether is cooled to -70°C, and a solution of a lithium agent, e.g. butyl lithium, is dropped thereto.
