titleOfInvention Production of thermosetting resin
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled resin having excellent dimensional stability and heat resistance, by heating a compsn. consisting of a novolak phenolic resin and a polycarbodiimide. n CONSTITUTION: A novolak phenolic resin (e.g. phenol/formaldehyde resin) is mixed with a polycarbodiimide contg. at least two carbodiimide linkages per molecule (e.g. polymethylene polyphenyl polycarbodiimide having an average MW of 2,000, whose terminals are blocked with phenyl isocyanate) obtd. by carbodiimidating an org. polyisocyanate (e.g. 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate) in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. 1-phenyl-2-phospholene 1-oxide). Optionally, filler, reinforcing fiber, pigment, lubricant, etc. are added to the resulting compsn. The mixture is heated to obtain the titled resin. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
