titleOfInvention Production of polyester of high polymerization degree
abstract PURPOSE: Before it reaches a specific value of its intrinsic viscosity, a polyester is mixed with a polymer which is fluid at the polymerization temperature anc incompatible with the polyester and the polymerization is continued to give a polyester of high polymerization degree as the thermal decomposition is inhibited. n CONSTITUTION: (A) An aromatic dicarboxylic acid or its derivative such as terephthalic acid and (B) a diol selected from aliphatic diols or their derivatives and alicyclic diols or their derivatives such as ethylene glycol are polymerized. Before the intrinsic viscosity of the resultant polymer reaches 0.7, a polymer or copolymer which is incompatible with the polyester, e.g., less than 9.5 solubil ity parameter and forms stable fluid of 10W10,000 poise at the polymerization temperature is added to the polyester at a weight ratio of 10W500 to 100 of the polyester and the polymerization is continued to give the objective polyester. The polymer mixed can be removed with a solvent before or after fabrication. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
