abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a lowly odoriferous polymer, by polymerizing a conjugated diene in an aqueous medium or an organic solvent by using a catalyst system comprising a cobalt compound, an organoaluminum compound and a specified sulfur compound. n CONSTITUTION: A catalyst system is prepared by combining a cobalt compound (e.g., cobalt caprylate or cobalt naphthenate) with an organoaluminum compound of the formula (wherein R is an 8C or higher alkyl, x is a halogen and 0≤n≤1), e.g., tri-n-octylaluminum or di-n-dodecylaluminum chloride, and a sulfur compound selected from among carbon disulfide, phenylisothiocyanic acid, and xanthogen compounds (e.g., methyl xanthogenate).
