PURPOSE: L-carnitine is obtained from crotonobetaine using cell bodies with increased carnitine hydro-lyase activity which is obtained by anaerobic cultivation in the presence of a carnitine hydrolyase inducer. n CONSTITUTION: A microorganism capable of converting crotonobetaine into L-carnitine such as Escerichea coli IFO 3301 or Enterobacter cloacae IFO3320 is cultured under anaerobic conditions in the presence of a carnitine hydro-lyase inducer such as DL-carnitine or crotonobetaine to effect induction of carnitine hydro-lyase. The resultant enzyme is allowed to act on a solution containing crotonobetaine to hydrate the betaine asymmetrically to give optically active L-carnitin. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio |
