titleOfInvention Production of cellulose ether
abstract PURPOSE: To produce various cellulose ethers, stepwise, with the same synthetic steps without necessitating the pretreatment of the raw material, by mixing cellulose with a specific aqueous solvent composition and using the mixture as the initial stage reaction raw material. n CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solvent composition obtained by mixing 1 liter of water with 1W5mol of an alkali metal hydroxide (e.g. hydroxide of Li, Na, etc.) and ≥0.6mol of acrylonitrile or acrylamide (based on the glucose residue of the cellulose to be used as a raw material) at a low temperature (usually -15W+5°C), is mixed with a cellulose (e.g. wood pulp, cotton linter, etc.) and the mixture is used as the initial stage reaction raw material. The mixture is stirred or heated and the reaction is terminated at a desired stage to obtain cyanoethylcellulose, carboxy(ethylcarbamoyl)ethylcellulose, or carbamoylethyl-cellulose. n USE: Raw material for fiber, membrane or gel. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
