titleOfInvention Synthesis of benzyl ether compound
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a benzyl ether compound in a short time and high yield, in one step, by reacting a benzl halide with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide using a specific solvent and a specific catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: The objective compound such as bisvinylbenzyl ether can be produced by reacting (A) a benzyl halide of formula (R 1 and R 2 are H, alkyl, halogen, amino, sulfonic acid residue, aromatic group or cyano which may have substituent group; R 3 is H, alkyl or aromatic group; X is halogen, p- toluenesulfonic acid residue or methylsulfonic acid residue) with (B) an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide such as KOH having a concentration of ≥20wt% in dimethyl sulfoxide or diemthylformamide solvent heated preferably at 10W150°C, in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst such as tetrabutyl ammonium bromide for 10minW1hr. n EFFECT: The objective compound can be produced in a yield of as high as ≥70% even in the case of using a raw material having thermally reactive substituent group. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
