abstract PURPOSE: To produce the titled compound from a culture mixture simply and hygienically in high yield, by cultivating Peptostreptococcus anaerobius in a paeoniflorin-containing medium. n CONSTITUTION: Peptostreptococcus anaerobius FERMP-8129, etc., is subjected to subculture in a medium suitable for cultivating an anaerotic mold, further undergoes preculture, and Peptostreptococcus anaerobius is separated from the preculture mixture by an operation such as centrifuging, etc. The Peptrostreptococcus anaerobius is diluted with a mold for an anaerobic mold, sterilized paeoniflorin is added to the medium and Peptrostreptococcus is culti vated under an anaerobic condition. After the cultivation is over, the culture mixture is extracted with an organic solvent and the aimed tetrahydro-3- hydroxy-7a,8-dimethy-2,5-methano-1,3-benzodiox-ol-6(3aH)-one is obtained by chromatography. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
