titleOfInvention Novel substituted phenol
abstract NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (X is O or S; Y is H or halogen; Z is halogen; R is fluorine-substituted lower alkyl). n EXAMPLE: 2,6-Dichloro-4-trifluoromethoxyphenol. n USE: Intermediate for fungicide for agricultural and horticultural use. n PREPARATION: 4-Trifluoromethoxyphenol of formula II is made to react with chlorine gas in an inert solvent such as carbon tetrachloride at 20W30°C to produce the compound of formula III which is one of the compounds of formula I, and if desired, the product is converted to the exemplified compound of formula IV which is another compound of formula I by reacting further with chlorine gas in an inert solvent. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
