abstract | PURPOSE: To produce the titled compound useful as an intermediate raw material for pharmaceuticals, etc., by reacting a naphthalene compound with an alkyl halide at specific temperature range and conversion in the presence of an easily handleable inexpensive aluminum chloride catalyst having high catalytic activity. n CONSTITUTION: A naphthalene compound such as naphthalene, methylnaphthalene, etc., is made to react with an alkyl halide such as 2-bromo- propane, etc. to obtain a β-alkyl-substituted naphthalene such as 2,7- diisopropylnaphthalene. The above reaction is carried out in the presence of aluminum chloride catalyst at 0W80°C, preferably 0W50°C unitl the conversion of naphthalene reaches ≥60%. n EFFECT: The problem of the corrosio n of the material of the apparatus can be solved. n USE: Intermediate raw material for pharmaceuticals, dyes, agricultural chemicals, surfactants, synthetic resins, etc. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio |
