titleOfInvention Highly water-absorbing powder
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled powder useful as a water-absorbing and water- retaining material, by impregnating a particular aqueous dope composed mainly of acrylic acid in pulp, heating the product to polymerize the monomer component and crushing the polymer after drying. n CONSTITUTION: An aqueous dope composed mainly of acrylic acid and capable of forming a highly water-absorbing resin by radical polymerization reaction is impregnated in pulp, and the impregnated product is heated to effect the polymerization of the monomer contained in the aqueous dope. The product is dried and pulverized to obtain the objective powder. The aqueous dope is preferably the one produced by adding a water-soluble radical initiation agent to an aqueous solution of acrylic acid having a concentration of 35W70wt% wherein 60W80% of the carboxyl group of the monomer is neutralized as an alkali metal salt. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
