titleOfInvention Material holding microorganism
abstract PURPOSE: A material holding microorganisms, useful for a device for biological reactions, keeping microorganisms in high concentration, wherein thin fibers are sterically entangled, the contact parts between fibers are at least partially bonded by a mechanical, thermal, or chemical means. n CONSTITUTION: Filaments, fibers, fabric (nonwoven facric), etc. of synthetic fibers such as nylon, PP, etc., glass heat-resistant resin such as fluoine-contained resin, silicone resin, etc., having tens W several mm fiber diameter, are sterically entangled, the contact parts of the fibers are partially or wholly bonded by a mechanical, thermal, or chemical means or by their combinations, to give a material holding microorganisms, having complicated space. The material is optionally processed into a shape such as cylindrical, square, spherical hollow cylindrical shape, etc., having 3W100mm diameter, 3W100mm length, 0.005W0.4 bulk density, and 60% void of particles, and it is effectively used as a material holding microorganisms for fermentation production by a bioreactor, waste water water treatment by activated sludge, etc. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
