abstract NEW MATERIAL:The enaminocarboxylic acid derivative of formula [R 1 and R 3 are lower alkyl; R 2 is H or alkyl; R 4 is (substituted) aralkyl]. n EXAMPLE: 3-Aminocrotonic acid 3-(N-benzyl-N-methylamino)-2,2-dimethylpro pylester. n USE: A synthetic intermediate of a 4-phenyl-1,4-dihydropyridine derivative useful as a remedy for circulatory diseases having long-acting hypotensive activity. It has phyriological activity in itself, and is useful as pharmaceuticals and agricultural chemicals. n PREPARATION: The compound of formula I can be prepared by condensing 1 equivalent of the β-ketocarboxylic acid derivative of formula II with preferably 1.0 equivalent or large excess of the amine of formula III.
