abstract | PURPOSE: To enable the direct optical resolution of a compound which can be derived easily from glycerol used as an inexpensive precursor, by using a polysaccharide derivative as an optical resolution agent. n CONSTITUTION: The optical resolution of the enantiomer mixture of a glycerol derivative of formula I [R is C(CH 3 ) 2 , CH 2 , CO, group of formula III or C(CH 3 )H] is carriedc nout by using an optical resolution agent containing a polysaccharide and its derivative, preferably a homoglycan having high regular ity and definite bonding manner (e.g. cellulose, amylose, β-1,4-chitosan, chitin, etc.) as an active component.
