abstract PURPOSE: A polymer having excellent transparency and a good balance among heat resistance, thermal aging resistance, chemical resistance, solvent resistance, dielectric property and rigidity, comprising a polycyclic monomer component unit and having a specified structure and a specified intrinsic viscosity. n CONSTITUTION: A polymer comprising a polycyclic monomer component of formula I and, optionally, ethylene, wherein the ethylene/polycyclic monomer component molar ratio is 95/5W0/100, said polycyclic monomer component unit chiefly has a structure of formula II, and the intrinsic viscosity [η] as measured in decalin at 135°C is 0.005W20dl/g. In the formulae, R 1 WR 12 are each H, alkyl or a halogen, R 9 or R 10 and R 11 or R 12 may be combined together to form a ring and n≥2. Said polymers can be broadly classified into homopolymers of the polycyclic monomer component and random copolymers thereof with ethylene, among which the latter are preferable because of a good balance among the properties mentioned in the purpose. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
