titleOfInvention Method for measuring temperature in water
abstract PURPOSE:To measure water temperature under the surface at continuous measuring points or an optionally selected point extremely simply with an error reduced as small as possible by detecting the reflection of laser beam from an uneven part under water which may be generated by the advancement of an ultrasonic pulse and measuring the Doppler modulation of the laser beam at the detection of the reflected laser beam to detect the underwater speed of an ultrasonic wave. CONSTITUTION:When an ultrasonic wave R is radiated from an ultrasonic wave oscillator 2 and then FM-modulated laser beam L is radiated upon the ultrasonic wave, the laser beam is reflected by the uneven part R0 under water which may be generated by the ultrasonic wave transmitted into water and the reflected light is detected by a photodetecting device 4. When it is defined that the vector of the number of waves of the laser beam is Ko and the vector of the number of waves of the reflected laser beam is Ks, the incident light Ko is divided into the directions by mirrors, 5A, 5B, but the reflected laser beam Ks is observed only from one direction, so that the Doppler frequency fD of this case is shown by the equation L when the unit vectors of the two incident light K01, K02 are defined as U01 and U02 respectively. When the equation II is substituted for the equation I and then deformed, the equation II is obtained. A numeral is substituted for the equation III to find out the change of underwater speed.
