titleOfInvention Galvanic cell type oxygen sensor
abstract PURPOSE:To extend the life of an oxygen sensor by constituting positive and negative electrodes of a prescribed material and an electrolyte of a prescribed liquid. CONSTITUTION:A galvanic cell type oxygen sensor is constituted of a positive pole 1 of a metal such as gold, platinum or the like effective for electrolytic reduction of oxygen, a porous negative electrode 2 formed by mounting cadmium powder with polytetrafluoroethylene, an electrolyte 3 consisting of an aq. soln. mixture composed of a prescribed concn. ratio of acetic acid and potassium acetate. The resulted product of reaction of the cadmium negative electrode 2 does not cover the surface of the electrode 2 with the constitution in which the aq. soln. mixture composed of the org. acid and the alkali metallic salt of the org. acid is used. Instability in the sensor output in a short period is thus prevented and the life of the galvanic cell type oxygen sensor is extended.
