abstract PURPOSE: A polyester film having fine surface irregularities, slipperiness and excellent electrical properties and suited as a base film for the production of high-quality magnetic recording media, prepared by finely dispersing a specified polyimide compound in a polyester. n CONSTITUTION: A polyester comprising an acid component based on an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and a glycol component is mixed with about 0.01W1wt% organic particles comprising a (di)imide compound represented by formulas I and II[wherein Ar and Ar' are each an aromatic residue, R and R' are each an aromatic or an aliphatic residue, and X and X' are each a terminal functional group (carboxyl, amino, ester, amido, hydroxyl, or alkyl)], being substantially unreactive with a polyester, and having an average particle diameter ≥1μ, e.g., N-(phenyl)phthalimide or N,N'-di(phenyl)pyromellitimide of the above particle diameter.
