abstract | PURPOSE: To produce a polyester excellent in electrostatic cohesion and heat resistance, by reacting terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol in the presence of Ca and/or Mg compounds while adding a P compound in divided portions. n CONSTITUTION: A dicarboxylic acid component based on terephthalic acid or an esterifiable derivative thereof is reacted with a glycol component based on ethylene glycol in the presence of 30W400ppm (in terms of metal atoms) of Ca and/or Mg compounds, 50% or below, based on the total amount to be added, P compound (e.g., phosphoric acid) and, optionally, 30W500ppm (in terms of metal atom) of at least one compound selected from the group consisting of Li, Na, K, Mn, and Zr compounds.
