abstract PURPOSE: To improve the accuracy of shape and to improve the quality of information on recording and reproduction by providing a recording layer consisting of a thin metallic film on a high polymer base plate having mechanical strength of specific Young's modulus. n CONSTITUTION: A recording layer 1 consisting of a thin metallic film is provided on a high polymer substrate 2 possessing the mechanical strength at which the ratio between the Young's modulus measured at 10 4 %/min tension rate and the Young's modulus measured at 10 5 %/min tension rate is ≥2 times and Young's modulus measured at 10 5 %/min tension rate is ≥1,000kg/mm 2 . The layer 1 is formed of Co, Ni, Fe alone or an alloy such as CoCr, CoNi or MnAl or oxide such as Fe 2 O 3 , Fe 3 O 4 or the like by vacuum evaporation, sputtering, plating, etc. The plate 2 is formed mainly of a material such as acetate, polyethylene terephthalate, polyimide, polyamide. The magnetic recording medium having width accuracy is obtd. with high accuracy without burring at the cut end face in the stage of cutting by providing the layer 1 on the plate 2 having ≥1,000kg/ mm 2 mechanical strength as mentioned above. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
